There is nothing special about our techniques, we just know what works great and what doesn’t.  We know about all the wood finishing colors, oils, waxes, stains, vanishes, lacquers, shellacs and paint; all which have unique effects on the wood.  We understand application methods and how they effect the final look. And we also recognize that depending on the material type, some products and applications work better then others.

What we provide at Heritage Finishing is bringing together of 20 years of wood finishing experience that starts with asking the questions that have you making the right choice at the beginning.  If we don’t get you feeling completely confident before the first grain is sanded or stain is applied, we don’t start the work.  We consider ourselves the wood finishing consultants that plan first and apply only once the planning is done.

Finished Wood Features and Services We Specialize In

If beautiful classic wood is being used in a home, we are always excited to do the finishing work.  However, some projects are more challenging then others.  That’s why our customers call us the “wood finishing professionals”.  We know how to handle the details that will deliver results.  Here are some of our most common work and of course pictures we love to show off.

Bueatiful Staircase

Staircases That Deliver Stunning Appeal

Staircases are probably the most common wood stand out feature of a home.   Often people invest large amount in some of the most classic woods such as oak, walnut, maple or ashwood.  These materials all have their advantages and disadvantages, so it is important to know what these are and provide guidance on the finishing options that are best for these surfaces.

Another consideration is railings.  If the railings are made of the same wood as the handrail and posts, it is likely that everything will be finished in the same manner.  However, many more modern railings are of metal or other materials.  This type of project then takes special care as each railing needs to be protected so that materials do not damage them.

Finished wood stairways can be a lot of work and it takes time to do them right, but we love doing the work because it has such a stunning impact on the home.  Staircases are our specialty, so check out lot’s of examples on our Gallery page.

Wooden Wall Features

Wood features on walls like shelving, bookcases, cabinets or just panels, are a fantastic way to create the character of a room. Having the right stain and topcoat is the true way to set the room apart from other rooms in the house and quite frankly, rooms from other homes.

We take the time to fully understand the mood desired, consider the lighting in the room and understand the other features that are supposed to compliment the area.  With this in mind, we find the right stain color. Depending on the finish desired, this may be a polyurethane or a stain with a topcoat finish.  Regardless of what materials we use, we take the right approach for smooth and refined application to deliver stunning results.

Beautifully Natural and Protected Wood

From furniture to fixed wood in the home, there are few features more stunning then the look of natural wood. However, with that beauty comes a significant cost for the material alone.  To preserve and protect it from moisture, dirt and other contaminants, you need to protect it with a topcoat.

The most popular topcoat finish for the natural look is lacquer as it lets the quality shine through, yet provides a hard clear coating that will protect and maintain the look for decades. We use our high quality sprayer to apply multiple layers of lacquer, with each layer taking 48 hours to dry.  Even though this process is slow, the result makes the effort well worth the investment.

Specialized Matching Such as Aged Effect

Matching new wood with current aged wood in the home can be a challenge, but we know the tricks of the trade to deliver the result you want.  Depending on how aged you are trying get the look, we use additives like water, vinegar, or possibly a pre-mixed weathering agent.  Using the right stain is important too, as the true ability to match the wood currently in the home starts with a good color match.

With out equipment, techniques and experience, we can pull off some pretty amazing matching in the home.  You definitely don’t want to try this yourself, it is really important to have the experience of applying this in the past. Give us a call at Heritage Finishing and we will come out and have a look at what you are trying to do and let you know what it will take to get it done.

Although we tend to do more projects with non-painted surface, we can certainly provide the guidance and experience to deliver spectacular painted surfaces.  From doors to cabinets or wall units to beams, we can deliver the wood painting that will make your home shine.
